NAPLAN
Over the next two weeks our Year 3 & 5 students will be undertaking the NAPLAN assessments. For the first time the assessments will be completed online except for the Year 3 writing assessment. Parents of students in these grades can help their children by trying not to stress them about the assessments, treat it as just another day as these assessments are just a snapshot of the student’s capabilities. Make sure however, that they aren’t late and have breakfast before they come to school. All students will need to ensure that they have their headphones with them each day and the Year 5 students bring their iPads fully charged.

Cross Country
We wish all of the students who will be attending the cross country carnival this week all the best, we hope they enjoy the day.

Years 5 and 6 Excursion to Canberra
Please note that the bus will be leaving the school promptly at 6.30am.  Please ensure that students are on time as we will be unable to wait.

Last Thursday as a whole school we gathered together to celebrate an Easter Mass.  It was a lovely occasion and Fr Sean’s homily reminded us of the similarities between ourselves and Jesus’ first followers.  Thank you especially to Mrs Hamilton and the Liturgy Group for leading the singing so well.

Thank you very much to Mrs Mitchell for leading the Year 6 Confirmation candidates and their families through a preparation program over the past few weeks.  After the Sunday 9 am Parish Mass at Bowral this weekend there will be a short practice for the children receiving the sacrament.  The Confirmation ceremony itself is being held at 2 pm on Saturday 18^th May.  Confirmation is the third sacrament of initiation (along with Baptism and Eucharist).  As part of their preparation for Confirmation, Year 6 children have learnt about canonised saints of the church.  There are literally thousands, including Australia’s own St Mary of the Cross MacKillop.  During the ceremony, each candidate will be called by the saint’s name they have chosen.  Honouring saints in this way is not unique to the Sacrament of Confirmation.  Pope Francis, the leader of our Catholic Church, was born Jorge Mario Bergoglio but chose Francis as his papal name in honour of Saint Francis of Assisi.

On Thursday 16^th May the children from the Liturgy Group who are able to attend the Confirmation ceremony will attend an afternoon practice at St Thomas Aquinas Church, Bowral.  It would be appreciated if the permission forms could be returned to school this week so that transport arrangements can be made.  The contribution made by these children demonstrates wonderful service and community spirit.

Change in Sports Uniform for Kinder, Year 1 and 2
For this term only students in Kinder, Year 1 and Year 2 will need to wear their uniform on a Friday instead of Thursday. 

For Term 2 sports uniform is to be worn on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Woolworths Earn and Learn
We are excited to be taking part in the Woolworths Earn & Learn program again this year.  If you usually shop in Woolworths you can help our school by collecting Woolworths Earn & Learn Points.  Just collect Woolworths Earn & Learn Points when you do your normal shop at Woolworths between Wednesday 1st May and Tuesday 25th June.  Simply pop them onto a Woolworths Earn & Learn Points Sheet and once it's completed, just bring it back to school or drop it into the collection box at your local Woolies. The more we collect, the more we can redeem for educational resources for our school.
