A PRAYER ON THE 75TH ANNIVERSAY OF VP/VJ DAY.
Last weekend, we commemorated the 75th Anniversary of the end to the Second World War. Many people in our community would be remembering their parents, grandparents or great-grandparents who served to make our world a better place. Our Prime Minister Scott Morrison, spoke about the 1 million people who went to war to serve Australia. He reminded us that they gave “their tomorrows…. for our today”. Almost 40,000 Australians lost their lives in Second World War and many returned with injuries or ongoing health issues. Let us take some time this week to reflect on the honour and service these men and women gave for us.
STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY
This Friday 21st September, is our Staff Development Day. Our staff will be working with members of our school leadership team on the topic of Writing. There will be no supervision of students available on this day.
UPDATE ON COVID 19 RESTRICTIONS
The Catholic Education Office have consulted with all principals today, on updates to COVID 19 restrictions that will be incorporating NSW Health Guidelines. A joint letter will go out to parents when details are finalised. I thank you for your continued understanding of this evolving matter.
DEMOLITION OF OUR STORAGE BUILDING
Last weekend, the old storage building that was near our sandpit, was demolished to clear an area to create a play space for the students. With COVID 19 restrictions, it has been difficult to get a lot of work done in the play space, however this is at least a great first step.
Unfortunately, due to the wet weather, the trucks have created some dirt tracks on the field. This is being repaired this week. The students in the meantime, will need to remain off the field until the soil is laid this week. The back gate was also damaged and this will be repaired. We will not be able to open the gate for drop off this week, however the afternoon pick up is still available in this location. Yesterday we walked the students around to the back gate and we will continue to do so for a little while.
LITERACY WEEK
St Michaels will be celebrating Literacy Week in Week 7 with a Book Fair and a Book Character Parade. The Book Fair will run from Wednesday 2nd of September to Friday 4th September. Due to COVID 19 restrictions, parents and grandparents will be unable to attend the Book Fair, however the students will bring home a wish list to help with purchases. The Book fair is also a great opportunity to purchase books as Christmas presents. If you wish to do so, please contact our school office and we can put aside the books for your collection. All other purchases will go home with the students.
BOOK CHARACTER PARADE
A Book Character Parade will be held on Wednesday 2nd September for the students and staff. As mentioned in our Week 3 newsletter, there are a lot of ideas for affordable “create your own from home” character costumes, without going to the expense of purchasing costumes.
GDAY and GRANDPARENTS PHOTOS
Due to COVID 19 restrictions, our GDay will be different this year. We will not have visitors to the school, however, we are planning an online assembly for all the “Great People” to view. This is the final week for photos of Grandparents to be sent into the office. Thank you.
P&F ZOOM MEETING
Last Friday, we held our first P&F ZOOM meeting. It was a great opportunity for sharing ideas and consultation. The P&F members agreed to run a Father’s Day stall for the children, with gift purchases to be organised through ordering selected gift(s) and the students bringing them home on Friday 4th September. More details can be found in the P&F section of this newsletter.
Other items raised on the agenda were:
- A Cadbury chocolate drive for those parents who are willing to participate. This drive is a great way to raise money for the school technology resources, up to $24 from each box sold, comes back to the P&F as commission.
- A Christmas raffle- this would be the P&F’s major fundraising activity for the year. If you have any prizes you could donate, either personally or through a business or business connections, can you please let Rachell Berrell in our school office know and she will pass on the information to the co-ordinators. If you would like to help co-ordinate this raffle, please contact Rachell or Karen Alexander.
I would like to thank the ladies who joined us for the ZOOM meeting. It is an easy way to keep connected and participate in the P&F of the school. It would be lovely if a few more people could join us for the next meeting, which will be scheduled later this term.
Have a wonderful week everyone,
Take care and God Bless

Mary MacKillop Feast Day - Thank You
Thank you to everyone for your participation on the 7th August. It was wonderful to see all the students dressed in old fashion clothes. A very big thank you to Year 6 for the fantastic effort and organisation of the activities. We raised $228.90 dollars which will be greatly appreciated by the Maubara Orphanage. The money will be used to help the children with food clothes and education.
MASS
Be assured that in the Parish, every precaution is being observed to ensure the safety of those who come to Mass: distancing is clearly marked in the Church and maintained during Mass; all of the liturgical restrictions are followed (Communion in the hand and no singing); the Church is cleaned after each Mass; registration of those who attend is carefully recorded; sanitising is practiced by all who enter the Church. So, please, if you are well and able do not be hesitant about coming to Mass.
Registration will open at 7.00 a.m. on Monday 17th August, 2020 (go to the website www.ccsh.org.au and press the link “Register Here” for Mass).
Please remember that all Masses will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, because of the social distancing requirements.
Weekends Mass times will be:
Vigil Mass 5.00 p.m.
Sunday 8.00 a.m.
9.30 a.m.
5.00 p.m.
From Monday (17 August, 2020) Father Sean will take up the role of Administrator of the Parish of Ingleburn. This is a temporary position to prepare for a Parish Priest to be appointed there sometime next year. The plan is for him to spend Wednesdays and Thursdays in Ingleburn as well as some weekends to celebrate Masses.
The only change to our timetable here will be Wednesday and Thursday morning Mass now being 7.30 a.m. (to allow Father Sean time to get to Ingleburn for 9.30 a.m. Mass).
Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered from 4.15 p.m. to 4.45 p.m. on Saturday.
REMINDER
Reminder - If you have any students who are in Year 6 and wishing to be confirmed this year, will need to attend Mass as of the weekend of the 29th August to register. If you have already registered for Confirmation, remember to get your name marked off after Mass. You will still need to follow the links on the parish website www.ccsh.org.au to register for any of the weekend Masses.
PARISH RAFFLE
The drawing of the raffle for the car has, for obvious reasons, been deferred to early 2021, but tickets remain on sale. Please visit our website www.ccsh.org.au to buy tickets. An ideal Christmas gift perhaps!
