TERM 2 WEEK 3
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to all our students who are attending onsite for a day this week. The children have been very happy to see some of their classmates. As we have had quite a few essential workers students here onsite as well, all teachers have been involved in supervising classes. On the day your child has been scheduled to attend, they will definitely be with their classroom teacher. If they attend another day as an essential worker’s child, they will most likely be with a different teacher. At present, remote learning is the learning mode that all students will be doing, if they are at home or onsite. This is the direction NSW schools are undertaking until we resume to fulltime face to face teaching. A reminder to contact our office, if you have any questions about the software or logging into sites. Our St Michael’s Remote Learning Site is the place to go to for assistance on websites and other interesting facts. The link to this page is :

SOME “HOUSEKEEPING” ITEMS FOR WHILST THE STUDENTS ARE OFF SITE
- All children K-6 have a pack to work on at home and the learning from this pack, commenced in Week 1. When the students attend this week, some classes have given additional paper work to do whilst the children are at home.
- Each morning before 10:30am, one parent from your family needs to log in your child/children’s attendance to school if they are working remotely. All children onsite will have their attendance recorded by their class teacher. Attendance at home is logged on the GOOGLE form that is located on your child’s Seesaw page. This is very important, as it is the official roll. If you have not recorded this information, your child will be marked as absent. If you are having difficulties with this, please contact our school office ASAP.
- From Week 3 until further notice, all children should be working remotely unless they are attending school for their scheduled day. This is a Government requirement. If your child does attend school on an additional day, because you are an essential worker, can we ask that they bring all of their Term 2 Learning packs, stationary items and drink bottles with them, as a few students are still coming without any equipment for learning.
STUDENT REQUIREMENTS FOR ONSITE ATTENDANCE:
- Please ensure that your child has their own water bottle from home as the bubblers will be locked.
- Students will need to bring all equipment to school ie; pencil case, remote learning pack, lunch, afternoon tea and hat.
- If your child has their own ipad device (no phones), can they bring that to school, so that your child can use it to do their online learning activities.
CLASSROOM HEALTH PROCEDURES
- Teachers will maintain physical social distancing for students in class where possible.
- Handwashing and sanitiser will be available for all students throughout the day.
- Enhanced cleaning procedures are being implemented by the school cleaners.
MORNING DROP OFF
Our procedures for morning drop off will remain the same. Children are to be dropped off at the Alice Street Gate. The Alfred Street Gate will be only for bus children. No parents are to enter the school premises other than coming to our school office. For social distancing requirements, we ask that only one parent is in the foyer at any time.
DIMISSAL IN THE AFTERNOON
If you are picking up your child, you must remain outside the school gates. The gates will not be unlocked until bell time to ensure that no adult enters the school grounds. All children who are being picked up by an adult, will be leaving the school via the Alice Street Gate. The Alfred Street Gate will be only for bus children. While waiting for your child, please maintain social distancing and leave the area quickly to allow other parents to pick up their children. Buses are operating as per normal route and bus times.
REMOTE LEARNING
We really appreciate all that you are doing at home to support the remote learning. If your child is finding the tasks too time consuming or difficult in any way, please don’t hesitate to redirect them or finish that task. Our student’s wellbeing is far more important at the moment. Our staff are aware that some children will not be able to do all of the activities sent to the students, for various reasons and they understand that. Please also be mindful that our staff are now onsite at school, supervising classes each day, so they may not be able to answer a question as quickly as they did previously.
ENROLMENTS FOR THE KINDERGARTEN CLASS OF 2021
We are currently finalising interview times for our Kindergarten enrolment meetings. If you have a child that will be eligible for that class next year and you have not contacted the school office for an enrolment package, please do so this week. If you know of any family that is intending to apply for our Kindergarten class of 2021, can you please pass on this information.
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF NURSING- OUR PRAYER FOR NURSES
Today we think about all the nursing staff in our hospitals, nursing homes and other medical facilities.
We pray…
Dear God,
The world is struggling through troubled times and we thank you for your care and love shown throughout.
Most especially this day, we thank you for the care of the many nurses and other medical staff serving the sick and the scared.
Please protect these caregivers.
Inspire and guide them in the work they do.
Strengthen them for the work that still lies ahead.
Comfort them in the face of the pain and sadness they witness.
May they know that the lives they touch, number far more than just their patients.
Finally, please bless the patients that come in their care, that they will be comforted, strengthened and healed, according to your will.
Amen.
Thank you for your continued support of our staff and students at St Michael’s Mittagong. Have a lovely week everyone.
Best wishes and God bless.
Best wishes,
Mrs Katrina West
Principal
May is the Month of Mary
The Blessed Virgin Mary is the Mother of Jesus Christ and the Church. She an example of love and devotion to God. Mary is also a guide and inspiration, for everyone who seeks to be the servant of God. It is common practice for parishes to have daily recitation of the Rosary during May, and many erect a special altar with a statue or picture of Mary as a reminder of Mary’s Month. With COVID-19 hindering us from being present in our Church we can do some little things at home to remember Mary this month.
We could pray the Rosary.

Medals of Mary can be worn not only in the month of May but anytime throughout the year.
Mass Times
Due to COVID – 19 Mass and liturgy services will be posted online through the Parish YouTube channel. I encourage you to still participate in Mass by viewing them online.

REC
If you have any school uniforms that are no longer needed, we ask that you please consider donating them to our clothing pool. Any donations can be delivered to the school office. Thank you.
Health and Safety
During this time it is important that we maintain the regulations in terms of reporting any incidents of COVID19. It is vital that you inform our school if your child has been tested for COVID19 or is in isolation due to being a close contact of someone being tested.
Students who are sick are asked to stay at home until they are well. Any child who becomes sick at school will need to be sent home and if contacted, we ask that you please collect your child promptly.
PARENT CONTACT DETAILS
At all times we ask that parents keep your contact details up to date. However, at this time, it is more crucial as we are sending out updated information, nearly on a daily basis. Please advise the office, in writing/email, if you have any changes to your residential address, phone numbers (home, mobile, work), email addresses and work details.
Happy Birthday to the following students who celebrated a birthday this week:
Breanna T, Jack D, Taylan L and Holly B
