Staff Spirituality Day (Pupil Free Day)
Staff Spirituality Day
Monday 9th September
This day is a pupil free day for students. Please ensure parents make appropriate arrangements for the supervision of your children on that day.
REMEMBERING THE GREAT PEOPLE IN OUR LIVES
This week, our school community celebrates “G Day”, a day which recognises the great people in the lives our students, especially their grandparents. The students will have the opportunity to welcome their “great people” to our school on Friday, 30th August. For some, it may be their first visit to our school, for others, they may regularly be part of our community, collecting their grandchild or grandchildren of an afternoon. This week, we also remember the grandparents who cannot be with us; those who could not travel, those who live far away, those who are sick, and sadly, those who have died are with God in heaven. They are all in our thoughts wherever they are. We will remember all the grandparents and great people, in our liturgy on Friday.
Grandparents are cherished members of our families. They bring gifts of wisdom, experience, and love and share with us their life of faith. We thank God for their example and ask that He bless them with happiness and good health.
A Child's Prayer for Grandparents
Dear God,
Please bless my grandparents.
Thank you for the life they gave my parents
and for the life they give to me.
For the ways they helped me and made me strong,
I give thanks.
For the ways they love me no matter what,
I rejoice.
For the ways they have paved the road
that leads me here,
I am grateful.
Let them grow in wisdom and joy in life.
Let them find peace and rest
from their work.
Let them be healed of every sickness and pain.
And let them see with their own eyes
the love of their children and grandchildren.
May God bless them always
for they are very special to us.
We love you.
FATHER’S DAY
This Sunday is Father’s Day. We wish all those who are Fathers and Grandfathers, a very special day. Tomorrow, the P&F are running a Father’s Day stall in the morning. We thank the P&F volunteers, for providing this wonderful opportunity for our students to purchase a gift for their loved ones.

G’DAY ORGANISATION FOR FRIDAY 30TH AUGUST
FOOD ARRANGEMENTS
Food items for morning tea can be delivered to the Year 5/6 classroom or the office on Friday morning. If you are bringing food items for lunch, can those items be taken to the canteen please. If the students are bringing the food with them, I ask that they see the teacher on duty in the morning, so they can be directed to the appropriate drop off area. It would be appreciated if all food provided is on disposable plates/platters.
A big thank you to all our families for preparing food for the day and to our parents who are helping with the morning tea and lunch organization.
LITURGY
The liturgy commences at 9:30am. All grandparents will need to be seated in the hall by 9:20am. I request that drivers do not park in the drop off zone near the gate entrance to our Year 6 classrooms, so that this drop off area can be used for any grandparent that requires assistance with walking to the hall.
MORNING TEA
Morning Tea will be held after the Liturgy. Grandparents and other visitors will find the morning tea area located in the Year 5/6 classroom.
CONCERT
The G Day Concert will take place at 10:30am. We hope that our “Great People” will enjoy the items that have been prepared by our wonderful staff and students. After the concert, our “Great People” will be able to visit the classrooms and Book Fair in the library.
LUNCH
Lunch will commence at approximately 12.30pm. This will be in the hall for our visitors.
No children are permitted in the hall for any reason during morning tea or lunch due to supervisory and safety reasons.
ASSEMBLY
Due to Grandparents’ Day celebrations there will be no Assembly this week. Extra awards will be given out at next week’s assembly.
Grandparents may take their grandchildren home but a note from parents needs to be sent in to school.

Fact File:
We know very few facts about St. Joachim and St. Anne. The only recorded stories of them are from an Apocryphal Gospel dating from the 4th Century AD called the Protoevangelium of James. The legend told in this document says that after years of childlessness, an angel appeared to tell Anne and Joachim that they would have a child. Anne promised to dedicate this child to God. Whatever their names or the facts of their lives, we can assume that Mary was raised in a Jewish family home faithful to God and to the religious traditions of her day, such that she was led to respond wholeheartedly to God’s request with faith, “Let it be done to me as you will.”

P&F WALKATHON - FRIDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER
It’s time to get excited! Last week, you should have received your Walkathon sponsorship form and parent letter.
Monies can be raised traditionally (cash donations) or via the online Go Fund Me Page. Money raised through cash donations can be recorded in the sponsorship form and handed into the front office. We do not recommend children undertake any door knocking activities without the supervision of an adult.
Donations can also be made online via the Go Fund Me P&F Event fundraising page, broadening the reach of your child’s fundraising efforts.
This year we have the created an online platform for those families who wish to seek donations from family, relatives and friends who may not live local but would like to donate. Please head to https://www.gofundme.com Search 'St Michael's P&F Walkathon Fundraiser'. Feel free to share the go fund me link with your friends and family.
We would like to thank Woolworths Mittagong for their kind donation of watermelon for the students to eat during the walkathon.

We would love to see as many people on the day to cheer the kids on as possible! Families can bring a picnic lunch and a coffee van will be available for the adults.
If you have any questions, please contact us.
Thank you for your support and happy fundraising!!!
On behalf of the P&F we sincerely thank you for supporting the fundraiser. Our events wouldn't be as fun without the support from our local community of sponsors and volunteers. It really is a pleasure being a part of such a great team. Thank you to all who have offered their help. It is very much appreciated!
RAFFLE
Prizes: 5 x 2 gold event cinema tickets, 4 x children hampers from Bowral Sweets and Treats and 1 adult hamper from the Mittagong Information Centre! 10 prizes in total.

A reminder that the Year 6 social group will sell soup at lunchtime on Mondays and Tuesdays for 50c a cup.
