Last Sunday was the feast of Pentecost, the birthday of the Catholic Church. On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descended with power upon the Apostles in the image of tongues of fire and thus began the mission of the Church in the world. Once the disciples received the Spirit, they went out boldly and preached to all in Jerusalem and elsewhere. Jesus himself prepared them for this mission, appearing to them on many occasions after his Resurrection. Prior to his Ascension into Heaven, he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father; that is, he asked them to stay together to prepare themselves to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The disciples followed the command of Jesus. They, as a community gathered together in prayer along with Mary, awaiting the promised event. It is here they all received the Holy Spirit. This feast of Pentecost is the culmination of the Paschal mystery, which tells us of the sending of the Spirit of the Father and the Son on the disciples.
“Come Holy Spirit, renew the face of the earth.”
Just a reminder that next Monday is our athletics carnival, hopefully the weather will make it a beautiful day like today.
Have a lovely week everyone,

Child Safety Handbook
The ‘Child Safety Handbook’ was officially launched in 2011 at Government House. A much needed and vital guide to assist children, parents and teachers, the Handbook covers the entire extent of potential hazards that young children face. The Handbook offers advice and facts on everyday activities, cyber safety, bullying, crossing roads etc. to the more unusual incidents such as such as floods and fires.
Attached is an excerpt from the handbook on Children's Mental Health and Wellbeing. Please take the time to read the article.

‘Sticks & Stones’ by Brainstorm Productions
Next Tuesday, 18th June Brainstorm Productions will be presenting their student wellbeing performance ‘Sticks & Stones’.
‘Sticks & Stones’ is a live educational theatre experience that tells the story of Toby, a boy who is angry, frustrated and always in trouble. Through an exciting and engaging narrative, including juggling and physical theatre, Toby learns to breathe, put his hands in his pockets, count to ten, resolve conflict peacefully and treat others with respect.
‘Sticks & Stones’ is part of our student wellbeing curriculum. It offers a great opportunity for students to learn practical skills for dealing with emotions, controlling impulses and building respectful relationships. Students are encouraged to direct difficult emotions into positive pursuits and speak to trusted adults if they are feeling unsafe at school, at home or online. The performance has been developed by teachers and psychologists, and has been seen and enjoyed by over 1.75 million Australian students.

SCHOOL REPORTS (Years 1-6)
Reports will be available via the Compass Parent Portal on Friday 28th June. We no longer print and send home bulk reports as per previous years. For those unable to download or print a copy of the school report, please notify the school in writing and a copy will be printed for you.
A reminder that a student profile exists on Compass only for the period of their enrolment at St Michael’s. When they leave St Michael's, their profile will not be accessible. As students' academic reports are provided to families via Compass, it is important that each report be saved to an external location by parents before the student leaves St Michael’s so that it remains accessible in the future (eg for high school application).
