Dear Parents & Carers,
As the end of another term approaches, we reflect on the many blessings and achievements experienced together at St Michael’s. This term has been filled with joyful learning, spiritual growth, and a strong sense of community. Highlights of the term include World Parents Day, Book Fair and the Feast of Corpus Christi, combined whole school mass.
This coming Sunday we keep the year 6 students in our prayers who are receiving the sacrament of confirmation. It is through the sacrament of Confirmation, the gifts of the Holy Spirit which were given to us at Baptism are confirmed. The gifts of Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge, Fortitude, Counsel and Piety help us to live like Jesus. Year 6 candidates, this significant milestone in your spiritual journey marks a time of deepening your faith and commitment to God. May the Holy Spirit guide you in all your endeavours.
Another significant celebration is the absolutely outstanding achievement that year 3 and year 5 displayed in NAPLAN. These results are a reflection of the excellence in teaching and learning that takes place each day at St Michael’s. Although academic success will look different for all students, it is clear that there is a strong partnership between teachers, students and parents, all of whom value education and promote engagement in learning. Well done!
As mentioned in previous communication, Principal Katrina West will be extending her recovery period for another two weeks and will return to the St Michael’s community in week 3. Although a difficult decision, I commend Katrina in prioritising her health to ensure a smooth and complete recovery on her return. Until then, I look forward to continuing my Acting Principal role in the first 2 weeks of term 3.
May you all have a peaceful break and may God bless you always.
Sheereen Brunetta
Acting Principal
Students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9 participated in the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) during Term 1. A NAPLAN individual student report will be provided for your child early in Term 3. The same report format is used for every student in Australia.
NAPLAN results are reported against proficiency standards. There is a standard for each assessment area at each year level. Proficiency standards provide clear information on student achievement. Student achievement is shown against 4 levels of proficiency:
- Exceeding: the student’s result exceeds expectations at the time of testing.
- Strong: the student’s result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing.
- Developing: the student’s result indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing.
- Needs additional support: the student’s result indicates that they are not achieving the learning outcomes that are expected at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.
If your child participated in 2024 and does not receive a report by Friday 2 August, contact the school office.

Sunday 28th July
Our Parish (Corpus Christi Mittagong-Bowral) is holding a celebration for World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly on Sunday 28th July to coincide with the feast of Saints Joachim and Anne (the grandparents of Jesus.) The celebration will begin with Mass at 9:30 am, followed by morning tea and fun activities for children, parents and grandparents in the Parish Hall. This is a lovely new initiative and it would be wonderful to see lots of families present on the day.
