WELCOME TO MRS SHEEREEN BRUNETTA- Acting Principal
Last Friday, our school welcomed Mrs Sheereen Brunette to our school. Sheereen commences today in the role of Acting Principal, whilst I am on sick leave until the end of this term. We are all very excited to have Sheereen as part of our staff here at St Michaels.
Last week we invited parents to provide feedback on their experience of our school using an online survey. The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process. All schools across the Diocese of Wollongong will be conducting this survey.
We would like to invite you to complete the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Partners in Learning survey. As we value the role of parents and carers within our school community we would greatly appreciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing at St Michael’s Mittagong
The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. You are able to access the parent survey on your computer or mobile device by using the URL below:

The survey closes this Friday 24 May. There may be a couple of questions that are more high school related. You can just tick not applicable for them.
Thank you so much for your ongoing support of our school.
What an absolutely fantastic day we had at St Michaels for our Parents Day. A big thankyou to our students for sharing their Mathematical learning and to our wonderful parents who attended the day, prepared the bbq and pancakes and supported our Book Fair. During the day, students showed their parents work covering the following areas in Working Mathematically across Number:
- ‘Number of the Day’
- Variety of Numeracy games
- ’Guess the Mystery Number’
- Add 2 Dice Special game,
- Double Up game.
- Number Sense - Problems Practice
- Game - Double Bubble
- Addition & Subtraction strategies
- Fractions strategies
- Rotation of mathematics warm-up activities
- Kahoot with a variety of questions created by Y6 students on topics they have covered over the last few weeks and last term.
Mathematics is the Key Learning Area we are targeting in our Annual Improvement Plan.
Our goal is that students will demonstrate learning growth and engagement through working mathematically.
If you have any feedback regarding Parents Day, we would love to hear from you.
BISHOP PETER INGHAM
On Friday 10 May, our Diocese sadly said farewell to Bishop Peter Ingham, who passed away on the 26 April 2024.
Paying tribute to the impact Bishop Peter had on the Diocese of Wollongong, the current bishop of Wollongong, Bishop Brian Mascord said: “Bishop Peter was a spiritual father of the Illawarra, Macarthur, Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands. We offer him a heartfelt ‘well done, good and faithful servant’ (Matthew 25:23), and we take comfort in the sure hope that we now have another advocate in the presence of our Lord praying for the needs and salvation of the people of God in the Diocese of Wollongong.
“A man of God—a man for the people. May his noble soul rest in peace.”
NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME
This week, schools across the country will be reading together as part of a project called National Simultaneous Storytime.
This year, our Year 6 students will be reading the selected book titled ‘Bowerbird Blues’. We thank Year 6 for this exciting initiative.
BOOK FAIR
A big thank you to Mrs Sewell, Mrs Murnane, Mrs Faavae and helpers who organised this year’s Book Fair. It was so wonderful for the student to have the opportunity to “shop for books”.
THANK YOU
I hope everyone has a wonderful week and especially a great Athletics Carnival tomorrow. Thank you to all our staff and parents who are helping create this great day.
I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Laudato Si’ Week 19th May - 26th May
Laudato Si’ Week is a celebration held annually in May to mark the anniversary of Pope Francis’ landmark encyclical on caring for creation. Sponsored by the Vatican’s Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, this global celebration unites Catholics to listen and respond together to the cry of creation, rejoice in the progress we have made in bringing Laudato Si’ to life, and intensify our efforts through the Laudato Si’ Action Platform as well as other opportunities for education and action.
In Laudato Si’ Week 2024, let us gather in community to contemplate the wonder of creation and nurture seeds of hope for our “suffering planet” (LD 2). Laudate Deum is a reminder about the urgency of the Laudato Si’ message and the need for both personal and cultural transformation amidst our ecological and climate crises.
This year’s Laudato Si’ Week theme is inspired by the symbol for Season of Creation 2024, “firstfruits.”
Let us be seeds of hope in our lives and our world, rooted in faith and love.
On Monday each class in our school spoke about what they can do helpcare for our environment and how it is our responsibility to take care of God’s creation. Our students have created a tree of all their ideas as a way to remind them they are the “Seed of Hope” for our future
On Friday, we placed our pre-loved uniforms out on some tables for parents to look through. If you have any uniforms you can donate or swap for the next size up, we would be very grateful.
