TERM 2 WEEK 6 NEWSLETTER

Dear Families,

What a fantastic night we all had at the St Michael’s P&F Disco!! It was so wonderful to be able to see our families again at our school. Nearly every student at our school attended the P&F Disco. The students had such fun and the parents and staff really enjoyed being able to come together for a community celebration. For many of our students, this was their first disco at St Michaels, as covid restrictions had postponed our discos over the past two years.

Thank you to the P&F organisers, especially Mrs Tasker and the Year 5 parents, who planned this disco and to our office staff who helped with administration and all the other staff members who attended the disco. If you go to our St Michael’s Mittagong Facebook Site and the St Michael’s Mittagong P&F Facebook site, you will be able to see some of the fun disco moves and highlights of the evening. If you are not a member of each of these sites, I highly recommend you joining, as many of our school activities and our online assembly are featured there each week.

HOLY SPIRIT NOVENA

This coming Sunday, will be the Feast of Pentecost, which is the celebration of the Holy Spirit coming to the apostles and the birthday of our church. When I was reading about Pentecost, I found this special prayer, which is prayed by the Church over the period before Pentecost. It is a special novena. A novena is a prayer prayed over a period of time or a prayer that is repeated several times. Catholics have prayed novenas for many special reasons. This one is for preparing for the Holy Spirit.

Considered the oldest and original novena of the Church, the novena to the Holy Spirit begins on the Friday of the 6th Week in Easter and ends on Pentecost Sunday. It originates in the second chapter of the Acts of the Apostles, when the bewildered disciples and believers gathered together to pray and await the mysterious Advocate that Jesus promised to send after his ascension.

The Veni Sancte Spiritus prayer is a simple, but powerful prayer that asks for the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and is one of the oldest prayers of the Church.

Veni Sancte Spiritus

Come, Holy Spirit,

fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love.

Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.

And you shall renew the face of the earth.

Let us pray

O God, Who instructed the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant us in the same Spirit to be truly wise, and ever to rejoice in His comfort and support.

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

WELCOME TO ST MICHAELS

Next week we welcome Mrs Jessica Peppin to St Michaels as our Senior School Support Officer. Jess is very excited to join our school community and I know you will all make her very welcome. A big thank you to our wonderful office staff, Mrs Townsend, Mrs Davies, Mrs Faavae and Ms Storry for managing our school office so well during this time of transition. We are very blessed to have such special people looking after us here at St Michaels.

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

As mentioned earlier this week in a news feed, Eridge Park Athletics Field is currently closed by Wingecarribee Shire Council due to the wet ground conditions. It looks very unlikely that this situation will change in the short term therefore a decision has been made to postpone this Friday's Athletics Carnival. The new date and possible venue will be communicated as soon as it is known. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

A reminder that we currently have a couple of places available in some of our classes, so if you know of anyone moving to the area, they are welcome to submit an application. Applications are available online through our school website, or they can contact our school office.
